Last year's fundraiser ran short of its goal. I've taken a break to assess the essential strands of my project, and their associated challenges to realisation.

1) The crux of ecophonesavers hinges upon our eagerness to properly dispose of old electronics. However, apathy can arise when our hoarded electronics scarcely announce themselves to us, minimally intruding upon our daily lives.

2) Making the project known to the public requires strategic promotion. A level of advertisement beyond limited word-of-mouth did not accompany the first iteration of ecophonesavers.

3) The financing of the electronics' shredding entirely relied upon the success of the crowdfunding campaign. The suddenness of the campaign, its detachment from the personal lives of others, and the lack of widespread promotion supporting it created very little desire for investment into the project.

This crucial analysis foregrounds the important theme lacking when this project premiered: community. Instead of boxing myself into the responsibility of collecting mobile phones, I need to look outwards. A global effort to recycle the electronic devices we each possess is the next step in this project, turning ecophonesavers into a thriving community-based hub of like-minded people who are mindful of the human impact on the Earth.

The launch of the ecophonesavers Instagram account marks the emergence of a collective voice for climate activism, comprising of our individual thoughts and efforts.

Let's connect through this united cause, and create a domino effect.
